Project Report | Feb 12, 2018
update

By Mastora Yagoub Bakhiet | Project Leader

Darfur Women Network (DWN) is pleased to reach out to you to say thank you for your generous donation and to express our gratitude for your support. Without your support, we couldn’t help some refugees to grow their own food. I am proud of you and grateful for your support when talk to refugees and hear that they are happy farming and excited to have food and share it with whom have little or have nothing.

The Food Security Project is a robust tool to empower refugees to reduce hunger in their refugee camps.

We have less than five months to prepare for farming. The last season we supported fewer refugees than our 2016 , because we had enough fund to support 150 families.  Last year, we supported only elderly, disabled, and orphans. Some grew very small sizes compared with the first one we supported.

Last season, there were some health issues came up  in the camp.. When the refugees reached out to us because they have no one to ask, we responded positively, even though, it was challenging discussion. We supported an elder who was very sick and the traditional remedy was ineffective for him to heal. We were able to secure his travel from the refugee camps to N’djamena and he is still there. He is feeling much better, now.

Now, we are grateful to have $440. This amount you have generously donated from September to the present. We are asking you to reach out to your family members, friends, and network to raise more money to support more survivors’ families to grow their own food and to feed their children. Let us help refugee women to gain confidence and change the culture that devalued women’s effort. In fact, women are able to make change and to feed their children if they have the strong support needed.
