Community Visits to Commence Project

By Adaobi Ugwu | SI4DEV Volunteer (Enugu)

This project will provide training to women that are engaged in agriculture in Ugwogo Nike community on how to convert poultry waste to biogas for cooking and production of bioslurry as an organic fertilizer for farming for the reduction of greenhouse gases emission and food security.

The community has been visited for the commencement of the project. The site for the location of the biogas plant has been chosen and a meeting was held with some rural women involved in agriculture. The final selection of women that will be participants of the project is ongoing.

The concept of biogas has been introduced to five women that are meant to be the subject for the reliability testing of the project.

Partner / Stakeholder

Contact Person is the Women Representative Florence O. I met with her and we agreed that the food security and agribusiness skill training will commence fully according to schedule.

ADDITIONAL REQUEST/COMMENTS

Purchase of hand sanitizers, face masks, buckets and soaps for hand washing during the training sessions as the recent outbreak of corona virus in the state is causing a lot of panic amongst people as regards gatherings.

Challenge Lessons learned / Solutions
It has been challenging to directly meet with the traditional ruler of the community because if his tight schedule
I was able to later communicate with him,he accepted the offer for the training and directed me to the town union president. Hence it was then agreed that the project should fully commence.

Next Steps
To fully commence the training sessions with the women, purchase materials for the construction of the biogas plant and then construct the biogas plant.
