FOOD FOR GOOD FOR CANCER PATIENTS IN KENYA- PROJECT 51672
PROJECT REPORT-AUGUST TO OCTOBER 2022.
Africa Cancer Foundation (ACF) is a charitable Trust, launched on July 12, 2011 in Nairobi, Kenya to create awareness on cancer, spearhead cancer prevention and provide holistic solutions for cancer patients.
In April 2021,ACF raised funds on GlobalGiving for the Food for Good project. The project aimed at addressing the nutritional needs of 300 cancer patients and their families by setting up vegetable cone gardens for them to enhance food security and better nutrition during their treatment journey.
ACF has to-date raised over $21,676 from 280 donors out of a target of $50, 000.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Since June 2021, a total of 124 vegetable cone gardens have been set up in 6 counties in Kenya.
ACF managed to set up 7 new vegetable cone gardens between July and October 2022. The patients were drawn from support groups and treatment facilities in Nairobi and Kiambu counties.
CHALLENGES
Kenya has been experiencing drought over the past year making it a challenge to set up new cone gardens for patients anywhere in Kenya. The situation has continued to worsen due to the failure of four successive rainy seasons. The patients ACF serves are very needy and most do not have access to enough to cater for their needs and water their cone gardens during this dry season.
CONCLUSION
Set up of the remaining cone gardens will commence once the weather conditions in Kenya improve.
Thank you for your continued support towards ACF’s ‘Food for Good’ project.
