Project Report
Drought Relief for Somali Families (Project #75200)
Reporting Period: July–October 2026
Rains Bring Relief, but Flash Floods Create New Humanitarian Needs
During this reporting quarter, no additional funds were received through the project, and therefore no activities were financed from GlobalGiving contributions during the reporting period. Nevertheless, Talobeeg Foundation continued monitoring the humanitarian situation and engaging with communities as conditions evolved.
After a prolonged period of drought and severe water shortages, the onset of seasonal rains has brought much-needed relief to many drought-affected communities. Water availability has improved in some locations, and the rains are providing an opportunity for the gradual recovery of pasture and pastoral livelihoods.
This is an encouraging development for families that have endured repeated periods of water scarcity, livestock losses, rising food prices, and declining household incomes.
However, the changing weather conditions have also created new challenges. Heavy rains and associated flash flooding have affected vulnerable communities, damaging livestock, homes and public infrastructure and, in some locations, resulting in loss of human life. Families already weakened by the prolonged drought are particularly vulnerable to these new shocks.
The situation demonstrates the increasingly complex nature of Somalia's humanitarian crisis. Communities can move rapidly from severe drought and water scarcity to flooding, displacement, damaged infrastructure and loss of livelihoods.
Talobeeg Foundation therefore intends to strengthen its efforts to assist communities affected by these overlapping emergencies. Our priorities include emergency assistance to vulnerable households, support for access to safe water and essential supplies, protection of livelihoods, and assistance to communities affected by flooding and other climate-related shocks.
We will also continue engaging community leaders and other stakeholders to identify the most urgent needs and determine where available resources can have the greatest impact.
Although no new donations were received during this quarter, keeping this project active remains important. The humanitarian situation can change quickly, and additional support would enable Talobeeg Foundation to respond when vulnerable families face drought, flooding, food insecurity, displacement and related emergencies.
We sincerely thank our existing donors and supporters for standing with Somali communities. As conditions evolve, your continued support can help us move from monitoring and preparedness to direct assistance for families facing the greatest needs.
With gratitude,
Talobeeg Foundation
