Update on Aid for Afghan Families

By Missy Simmons | Director of Organizational Development

Nearly 3.7 million children in Afghanistan are suffering from acute malnutrition this year. Meanwhile, funding for food aid for the country has dropped nearly 60% in the last four years, while half the population is still in need of humanitarian assistance.

Additionally, nearly four million Afghan refugees have been forced to return from Pakistan and Iran in the last year and a half. Many returnees are struggling to find shelter and employment.

The situation in Afghanistan is dire for many people. The most frequent comment we receive from those we support is that they want to find work, but they are unable to because there are no jobs available, they are a woman and are restricted from working in most sectors, or they have a disability that prevents them from working.

We are  currently distributing a month's worth of staple food supplies to 110 families. All the constituents are either refugees, women-led households, have a disability or unable to find work. The rice, beans, flour, and oil will support families with their basic needs throughout the next few weeks.

Thank you for your support that makes this possible. You have helped to lighten families' burdens this month.
