REPORT OF GLOBALGIVING, PROYECTO CARACOL HEALTHY ENVIRONMENTS
General Objective:
Better quality of life, based on the universal access of children to optimal child development.
Specific objectives:
1. Implement the "Healthy environments" strategy with teachers of the Nezahualcóyotl kindergarten through the delivery of the handbook and a sensitization workshop.
Get to know the school physically and interact with the school community. Make a social diagnosis in the education institutions and review the educational infrastructure in San Mateo del Mar in Oaxaca. Before undertaking any program or project in the schools of Oaxaca should be considered the political-administrative environment that is subject to educational management in the entity.
Administrative division of the territory of the state of Oaxaca
In Mexico, Oaxaca is a special case of administrative division, has 570 municipalities that represent almost a quarter of the total nationwide (2378), grouped in 30 districts and a Subdivision of approximately 10,000 communities with administrative recognition of municipal agencies, police agency, police tenure or rural nucleus.
Profile of the people directly impacted:
San Mateo del Mar, is located in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in the state of Oaxaca. There are 5, 734 inhabitants. It's 6 meters above sea level. The inhabitants of this community mainly have an economic activity dedicated to the fishing of shrimp.
What it is Healthy Environments apply in emergency?
Girls and boys, from their conception, have the right to have the necessary conditions to develop their own health, well-being and care potential. The real possibility of achieving this depends to a great extent to have affective, safe and stimulating environments that provide them with fundamental resources.
In preschool girls and boys health and well-being are associated with feeling happy, loved and safe. It is a concrete and direct fact that derives from his personal experience, with his family, so they can discriminate which environments enhance their health, and which put them in physical and emotional risk. Hence, they do not live health as the simple absence of sickness or physical pain, so, feeling loved or protected people is a fundamental condition to achieve a full enjoyment of your health. The Emergency program Proyecto Caracol will consist in the creation of a Healthy environment handbook and the Teaching and design of a healthy practice workshop. This answers the thesis that part of the success in the development of children comes from the link they generate with the adults who care and their environment. That is why it is considered fundamental providing them from a material that orients and explains why certain practices are advisable.
We have the complete contributions to generate the improvement of the kindergarten infrastructure, through GlobalGiving, Sura and Halliburton. However, we want to complement the project with a healthy environment scheme that will be very useful to the population.
Activities until now:
At the end of January Fondo Unido, IAP carried out a scouting with the kindergarden in company of the allied World Vision Mexico A.C. to know physically the school and to interact with the school community.
World Vision Mexico A.C. and young builders of the community A.C. are already developing the executive construction project. We'll have it ready by the end of April. With this information we will be able to confirm or re-adjust the projected amount for the construction. If there was a surplus this would be invested in more benefits for child or school development.
World Vision Mexico A.C. and Young builders of the community A.C. will be in charge of the investigation of cabinet and corresponding deliveries with the authorities of educational physical infrastructure of Oaxaca and national to comply with all the norms. They also manage the building permits.
Fondo Unido, IAP is already revising the proposal of two partners for the implementation of the Healthy Environments program. We hope to have the ultimate ally over the course of three weeks.
If everything comes out in time, we estimate starting construction at the beginning of May and inaugurating the school in late August or early September of this year.
