100 Thousand Floors to Play On” is a regional initiative across Latin America aimed at families living in poverty, whose homes are built with low-quality materials and have dirt or deteriorated floors. The project focuses on households led by women and with children under the age of six, with the goal of improving their quality of life, health, and dignity.
In this first edition in Elotepec, Veracruz, 21 vulnerable families were selected. The criteria included:
Having homes with dirt floors.
Willingness to participate in mutual aid work.
Attendance at community meetings and workshops hosted by Habitat.
Owning their land, located outside risk zones.
Having access to basic services (water and electricity).
Timeline of Activities
October 28: General meeting with the 21 families to introduce the project, set expectations, and define start dates.
October 28–29: Technical assessments conducted in each home. Families were guided on preparing the 40 m² area for intervention and on the materials required.
November 4: Delivery of base layer material. Families collaborated to transport it to their homes.
November 7–12: Distribution of sand, gravel, and mesh for all 21 floors. Materials were delivered at multiple points to ease transport.
November 25: Arrival of Resin8. Families again worked together to carry materials to their homes.
November 26 – December 17: Floor construction took place. On-site and remote supervision was provided by a master builder and a community representative. All 21 floors were completed.
November 27: Socio-educational workshop held with all 21 families on healthy housing and habitability.
Community Participation & Beneficiaries
All 21 families were actively involved throughout every stage of the project. Their voices were respected, and their cultural customs were honored during decision-making.
Key Outcomes & Impact
21 safe, concrete floors were built, replacing dirt floors and improving basic living conditions.
27 children now have clean, safe spaces to play, reducing their exposure to stomach and gastrointestinal diseases.
Families were empowered to continue investing in improving other parts of their homes.
The project reinforced community ties and fostered leadership, especially among women.
Thanks to your generosity, 21 families in Elotepec now live in safer, cleaner, and more dignified conditions. Your support has made a difference for 90 individuals, especially 27 children who now have a solid floor to grow, learn, and play on. You are part of this transformation. Thank you for believing in change!
