Dear Friends and Donors,
We are very greatful to all of you for your timely support for the Chennai floods. Among all the families supported, here are some in Chennai who were supported. Kalanjiyam has been working with seven urban schools within Chennai and Kanchipuram districts for over two years.
The torrential rains and subsequent flooding of the Chennai caused immense damage to the city. The staff members made a thorough inspection of the schools and the beneficiaries’ houses to assess the damage caused by the floods. It was found out that the beneficiaries in the other areas we work were safe and did not suffer much damage. A few families in Mylapore and Mandhaveli were affected by the deluge. Field staff made house visits to the beneficiaries in these areas. It was found that ten of the affected families were unable to recover from the collateral damage. Sewage water entered their house and their families were evacuated out of their residences. They were stranded in government shelters until the flood receded. Their belongings were all immersed in the sewage water, making it unhygienic and unfit for use. Kalanjiyam, therefore, supported these 10 deserving families by providing provision and utensils to reinitiate their daily life.
