The Resilient Center is a project that has taken years of work, efforts, beginnings and restarts. In Puerto Rico we have faced constant challenges in the last 4 years: 2 high category hurricanes, devastating seismic events and the pandemic. From them we have learned to listen to the heart of the community and to build resilience alternatives that support us in times of crisis. That is our First Response Center: a resilience reference in the heart of the people.
Since March 2020, we have been coping with the different challenges that the pandemic presented us with: first the suspension of all non-essential activities, then the employment crisis we experienced, especially in the construction sector, which halted construction projects for more than a year. Finally, we overcame that stage and put down roots again by resuming our construction projects. Retaking the plans implied including new needs, so in a school that is now bigger, stronger and more resilient than in 2018, there is a new concept for the development of the first response center.
It is a source of great joy for us to share the new design of the space with the GlobalGiving community, which has been the main driving force behind this project. The immediate support, the constant trust and the vision for the future of each and every one of those who are part of this dream has led us to always go one step further. We remain committed to the goal of inaugurating the dining room and resiliency center by December 2022.
Each one of you is a key piece in this dream!
