Dear Teach by Tech supporters,
We hope this letter finds you well and safe! After a year like no other, and so many unknowns still ahead, we are finding comfort in our inspiring community of participants, donors, partners and allies. Our success is your success!
Teach by Tech continues to take positive action to address the needs of our refugee and immigrant populations. 2020 saw rapid changes take place in order to meet the moment and best serve our community. As we look forward to expansion in 2021 we have some exciting new developments.
In partnership with the Community First Foundation we have developed a digital literacy course for caregivers of remote learners. This course is focused on addressing the digital literacy gap that many adults are facing as it relates to their child's academic success. Our curriculum has been built around using Chromebooks and Google Classroom and mastering its many apps as well as internet safety and computer basics. We believe that each of the skills learned will be transferable to the demands of the 21st century workforce.
We have begun working with the founder of the Youth Education Hub In Kenya to pilot the use of our offline digital library. The goal here is to provide access to books, textbooks and audiobooks to children and students living in the Dadaab refugee camp. This partnership will allow us to curate the collection and meet the technology demands specific to the community.
We continue to provide workforce development training in partnership with the Denver Workforce Services (DWS). This collaboration is essential as it creates a path to employment for our refugee and immigrant participants. Upon completion of our course, participants are assisted in the job search, application and interview process by DWS. Because all classes are now remote, we have added an additional component of digital literacy to better meet our students needs and further develop their job skills.
While much more work and healing is needed, we are hopeful about 2021 and the prospects to expand our services and reach a larger population. We are so grateful for all of your support and hope you will continue to follow our progress and advocate our cause in the coming months and years.
