Dear Teach By Tech supporters,
I hope this email finds you well and safe! The past few months have been incredibly busy as we have been expanding our services to meet a greater population. We were in a good position to transition to remote learning as we were already emphasizing digital literacy and new technologies. We are so thankful to have such an impressive team of brilliant minds and supporters to further our mission.
Last month we began teaching our cashier training and money handling course with the Ute Learning Center in Southwest CO. This has been a wonderful expereince with amazing participants who are engaged and excited to learn. We look forward to a growing partnership and offering more classes to expand the economic opportunities of the Ute tribe. We are continuing to offer workforce training classes in partnership with Denver Workforce Services. In this partnership, we work primarily with refugees and immigrants who gain certification through our courses and then find employment through DWS.
We have just completed curriculum development for a remote computer class that is based on Northstar digital literacy standards. This class will prepare our students for basic computer usage and take them through the fundamentals of Microsoft Word and Excel. These skills are becoming necessary for all workers, even entry level employees. Computer literacy is a valuable skill that all people need for access to information, employment, health benefits, etc.
Lastly, the team has been working on developing ideas to overcome the issue of connectivity that is preventing so many people and students from accessing education. This has become incredibly pronounced during the age of Covid-19. To date we have developed an offline digital library that provides access to quality education learning modules custom created for our audiences. Our digital collection can be easily transported and used offline. It generates its own wi-fi hotspot which allows users to connect their devices to our library and download content, which can be viewed at anytime regardless of connectivity. We believe that this can be a tool to reach more of our underserved communities and their children.
Thank you again for all of your support! We are so thankful to have amazing individuals backing our mission and helping us expand our services.
With gratitude,
Linnie Pawlek
