Dear Donors,
Kenyan schools have just started the last trimester of classes for 2026. Green Fields continues to be an important program at 11 primary schools. Prior to the implementation of this program, 17% of the students who went home for lunch did not return for afternoon classes. The addition of fresh produce from the Green Fields gardens to school lunches has helped bring this down to 5%. This is the best meal of the day for many students. Also, the hands-on gardening is a favorite learning activity.
This past semester a pilot program was conducted at St. Peter’s Igero Primary School. A maize (corn) porridge was provided during mid-morning break. Again, this helped increase attendance and students were more alert in late-morning classes. Grow Against Poverty is developing a program to offer a maize and soya porridge morning “snack” at several schools. The ingredients will be purchased locally to support many of the students’ farm families.
Thanks for your contributions.
Regards,
John Roccanova
