Feeding Nutritious meals to Children in our ECD

Around 55.5% (over 30 million people) in South Africa live below the poverty line, with 14 million of them experiencing chronic food poverty, meaning they do not eat every day. Women are in the lowest bands of household expenditure, bearing the brunt of unemployment and of responsibility for children. They rely on low cost, high carbohydrate meals to keep their children fed - unfortunately resulting in malnutrition and obesity, often found in the same child. South Africans, are at high risk of micronutrient deficiency, specifically Vitamin A and iron. Lack of Vitamin A impairs the immune system, while lack of iron leads to anaemia, fatigue and dizziness. Hunger and micronutrient deficits are known to impact negatively on school attendance, cognitive capacity, death rates of young children and mothers, and immunity to disease. Through providing foods that are enriched with a wide range of vitamins and minerals, Luvuyo Centre for Early Childhood Development and Care addresses both micro-nutrient deficiencies and overall healthy development in school-aged children.

To date through our donors and local businesses we have managed to feed over 100 children in the. Community of Mamelodi, we still have a long way as we like to buy a mobile soup kitchen to be able to reach other sections of the community. 
our next ideal project is to try find this mobile van and donors to be able to reach more children
