Feeding Hope in the Mixteca Poblana Region aims to combat food insecurity in highly marginalized rural communities through our Ruta de la Caridad program, bringing food and hope to vulnerable families and creating synergy with our partner Fuerza Migrante to transform solidarity into real impact.
The Mixteca Poblana region is one of the most vulnerable in Mexico, where more than 80% of the population lives in poverty and thousands of families face food insecurity, with limited access to nutritious food. This situation has led to massive migration to the United States, leaving communities fragmented and vulnerable. The remoteness of these communities, the lack of economic opportunities, and the abandonment resulting from migration have deepened this situation.
This project fights food insecurity in the Puebla Mixteca through weekly food distribution routes reaching vulnerable rural communities. Led by Banco de Alimentos Caritas Puebla, with 30 years of experience, and supported by Fuerza Migrante, the initiative connects migrant communities in the U.S. with their hometowns in Mexico. The project provides food assistance, strengthens communities, restores dignity, and helps address the root causes of migration.
The Charity Route seeks to bring hope and well-being to the most vulnerable communities in the Puebla Mixteca through weekly visits and ongoing food assistance. Beyond addressing an immediate need, the initiative strengthens community resilience, improves quality of life, and builds local support networks. By reducing extreme poverty and lack of opportunities-two of the main causes of migration-the project helps families remain in their communities with greater stability, dignity, and hope.
