Feeding bodies and minds

Kenyan traditional foods for Cultural Day
Kenyan traditional foods for Cultural Day

The original aim of our feeding programme was to ensure that the children at our school were able to take full advantage of the good education we offer because they are have an adequate and nutritious diet and  consequently better health. Our excellent exam results this year despite school closures because of covid have delighted our staff and delighted us, the Trustees. We know that without our feeding programme some of our children would be very hungry with a few close to starvation. The programme is increasingly expensive. We now have more than 300 children from 3 to14 (we have an extra class as a result of covid, two classes of nursery children coming in together, as one group were unable to join us during school closure) and prices are rising. The children continue to have porridge on arrival and a nutritious midday meal. As with everything achieved so far all of this is only possible because of our wonderful donors and a lot of hard work. To see  photographs of children enjoying a meal has delighted us all. This year for the first time Cultural Day, now part of the curriculum, was celebrated. Traditional Kenyan Food played a big part in it, The day was a great success and much enjoyed by children, parents and staff.

Our expenditure on feeding the children is always high, almost equal to the cost of running everything else in the school. We still continue to support our very poorest families, the ones who would otherwise be close to starvation, during school holidays by providing fortnightly maize meal and beans. Parents who can pay for the meals we provide make a small contribution and are proud to do so for their children but it nowhere near covers the cost. So thank you for what has already been achieved through your help. Please enable us to continue our work. We the Trustees in the UK are grateful to you but in Kenya it has changed lives.
