As we write our latest quarterly report the final term of the 2016 school year has just started here in Kenya and it has brought with it two exciting developments for our feeding programme which we announced in our previous report.
Lunch programme extended to our latest and seventh partner school
As of the start of this term we have extended our lunch programme to Ngambenyi Primary School. This is to coincide with the completion of our 15-month long, £100k redevelopment of this, our seventh, partner school. We will reach a further 125 children, taking the total number of children benefitting from the lunch programme to more than 2,500. At a time when the dry season is beginning to bite in this area and food is scarce, this lunch becomes an increasingly important lifeline and we are delighted to be able to extend this support to Ngambenyi.
Breakfast club pilot launched
From the start of this term we are also launching a breakfast club, initially only at Kiteghe Primary School. This will provide a daily mug of porridge to the most disadvantaged children at the school, who have been identified by teachers as coming from extremely impoverished backgrounds and for whom the lunch they currently receive may otherwise by their only meal of the day. The pilot programme at Kiteghe will benefit 32 pupils and it will cost approximately £1 to provide one pupil with a daily mug of porridge for one month. We will monitor the impact of the programme over the term before deciding whether to maintain it and extend it to our other partner schools from next year.

If you would like to further support this vital programme then your donations would, as ever, be much appreciated. It costs just £15 ($20) to provide one pupil with a daily lunch for an entire school year.
