This month we mark two-years since the launch of our school lunch programme with the exciting news that we have now provided more than half a million meals! We are very proud to have reached this milestone so quickly and thank you for your support in making this achievement possible.
Kenya is currently in the midst of a teacher’s strike which has severely disrupted learning in our partner schools. However we have made arrangements with head teachers for the meal programme to continue and many pupils are continuing to come to school just to eat lunch. Efforts are also being made to ensure that food which was purchased for this term but which does not get used is not wasted, and can be used next year instead.
We were delighted to receive the following feedback from a former pupil of one of our partner schools, Kiteghe Primary, which has been involved in the programme since May 2014.
“Bless all those who contribute to this programme at my former primary school! Times were challenging [in those days], spending the whole day without food and not knowing whether you will find something to eat at home in the evening or not. The Kiteghe community can now smile. Through this programme the number of students in this school has grown because they know if things are not well at home they can at least have something to eat at school! You help to kill two birds with one stone; you give us food and you encourage these beautiful young ones to study!!"
Donations to the programme are still being matched £-for-£ by one our corporate sponsors, but only until the end of the year, and we still need more funds to secure the programme for 2016.
