This year will be the last that we pay for the food for a daily lunchtime meal for every single pupil across all of our eight partner schools.
This is part of a new chapter in the story of African Promise which has seen us wind-up much of the charity's day-to-day operational and fundraising activities after nearly 20 years of tireless support for our partner schools in Kasigau.
It has, of course, not been an easy decision to end our support for this vital activity in our partner schools but with food costing as much as £70,000 per annum in recent years it has become an increasing burden on us as a small charity to raise these funds and with the decision having been made to significantly scale-back our activities it is money that we will simply not have going forward.
We will continue to pay for food for a couple of selected schools where established long-term charity partners and donors already provide funds for the programme at those schools (and have committed to continuing to do so), and we will help those schools to whom we are unable to donate food to find alternative means of feeding their pupils, as difficult as that will be.
With food for the final term of this year having now been ordered and paid for we are closing down our fundraising page for this activity on GlobalGiving and this will be our final update and report.
Since first starting our support of a lunch programme in a single school of around 300 pupils in September 2013, the charity has donated food for approximately 5 million lunchtime meals to many thousands of children, removing hunger as a barrier to learning and helping to keep more children in school more of the time.
This has only been possible because of the support of many hundreds of donors and partners, including many like you who have donated through GlobalGiving having either discovered us on the platform or been directed by us to donate there.
Thank you for your support.
