The last three months of the 2021-2022 school year saw a rise in the number of families coming to our seven distribution sites for food. We were able to restart Saturday morning distribution at our largest school district, serving between 125 and 185 each month. Additionally, our existing six other distributions saw about a 15% increase in families. We are now distributing to around 400 families broken out like this:
All Community Food Kits are paired with a large box of fresh produce, including greens, fruits and vegetables.
We have set our budget for the 2022-2023 school year and anticipate feeding 450 families on the above noted schedule. With the rising food prices (up nearly 13%) and still fairly high gas prices, we anticipate a continued increase in the families needing this type of assistance.
Your supports helps make this program possible. This is a pandemic-inspired feeding program which has become our third permanent program. It more than doubled our annual budget. Even buying in bulk, with a discount, our prices are rising. Our fresh bread has gone up 20 cents per loaf. Our canned chicken has gone up by $1.00 per can. Our fuel to deliver pallets of food to our sites has increased (just like all of yours).
We are committed to continue this program for as long as it may be needed.
