Feed Northland Kids created a Community Food Kit to impact hungry families in the Northland of Kansas City, MO. The kit was in response to school closings in March of 2020 and then hybrid openings in the fall/spring of 2020-2021. With limited or no access to our in-school pantries in middle and high schools, our children and families needing food needed another source.
We have continued this program for the 2021-2022 school year in six of our original seven school districts. The program now includes a produce box for all families paired with the Community Food Kit and is distributed twice a month. Families are identified by school social workers in each building for each district. While our numbers are lower than our entire 2020-2021 school year, there are still a steady 200 families needing continued food assistance.
