More than 80% of children in rural community are malnourished. Inadequate diet supplement, education and livelihood support options are some of the main challenges in providing balance diet to children. The project will support about 1500 children in Manyu division, Cameroon suffering from malnutrition by training and supporting 500 women on how to ensure nutritive diets for children well-being.

MAIN OBJECTIVE

To improve on the health of pregnant women and children through diet education and technical supports

ACTION NARRATION FOR 2016

The project stop malnutrition and infant mortality in Cameroon was initiated by RCESD team early 2016. Following field investigation and community engagement in the Manyu Division in South West Cameroon, it became evident that many health related issues, leading to infant mortality in particular could be addressed by intake of proper diet. In line with the main objectives of this project, the following milestones have been achieved:

  • Sensitisation and awareness  raising campaigns were organised across four community reaching 216 households and 1250 individuals. The campaign focused on the importance of proper dieting  in addressing common health challenges
  • As immediate actions to contribute to malnutrition challenges, 65 children in two ophanage were supported with food items that could supplement their diet intake. This included beans, vegetable oil, cereals , rice, canned fish and beef.

ACTION EXPECTATIONS FOR 2017

  • Expand public awareness raising effort to six more communities
  • Initiate training  for local women to engage in farming system that will support proper household nutrition need
  • Support at least 200 household technically and financially to meet up with diet need for their household
  • Strengthen partnership with other local organisation to join the effort.
