Humanitarian assistance is most effective when vulnerable communities receive support before their circumstances deteriorate further. Waiting until families have exhausted their resources can make recovery more difficult and increase the risks facing children, women and other vulnerable people.
Karamoja's food insecurity crisis demonstrates the importance of timely intervention. The September 2026 IPC analysis projected that approximately 679,000 people would experience Crisis-level food insecurity or worse between November 2026 and February 2027.
Recognizing these risks, the United Nations and its partners launched a US$50 million humanitarian appeal on October 26, 2026. The initiative emphasizes emergency assistance and anticipatory action to protect vulnerable populations against worsening food insecurity and anticipated climate-related shocks.
GIFU is appealing to donors to help strengthen efforts to reach vulnerable households with timely assistance. Early support can help families maintain access to food, protect essential livelihoods and reduce the pressure that leads to harmful coping strategies.
Your contribution today can help prevent greater hardship tomorrow. Please stand with Karamoja and support timely humanitarian action for families who need it most.
