Household food reserves are an important protection against hunger, particularly in rural communities where families depend heavily on their own agricultural production. Unfortunately, repeated crop failures and prolonged dry conditions have left many households with inadequate food stocks.
When stored food runs out, families become increasingly dependent on markets and external assistance. However, high food prices and limited income opportunities make purchasing sufficient food difficult for households already experiencing poverty.
The latest IPC analysis indicates that approximately 673,000 people in Karamoja faced Crisis-level food insecurity or worse during August–October 2026. It also highlights depleted household food stocks and reduced agricultural production as important factors affecting food access.
GIFU is appealing to compassionate donors to help vulnerable households facing food shortages. Contributions can help mobilize resources for emergency food assistance and support initiatives that strengthen household food security.
No family should have to watch its food reserves disappear without hope of assistance. Your donation can help make a meaningful difference in the lives of families struggling to put meals on the table.
Together, we can help restore hope to households facing the painful reality of empty granaries.
