Drought can affect an entire community long after the immediate shortage of rain. Crops may fail, livestock productivity can decline, household incomes may shrink, and families can lose the resources they need to recover. When these challenges continue, communities become increasingly vulnerable to food shortages and other emergencies.
In Karamoja, the continuing food security crisis demonstrates the importance of combining emergency assistance with sustainable recovery measures. The IPC has emphasized the need for humanitarian food and nutrition support alongside interventions that strengthen livelihoods, improve water access and build resilience to climatic shocks.
GIFU believes vulnerable families need both immediate assistance and opportunities to rebuild their livelihoods. Depending on community assessments and available funding, recovery initiatives can include support for climate-resilient agriculture, water access and alternative income-generating activities.
Your donation can help GIFU pursue practical responses to the needs of vulnerable households. By supporting this campaign, you are contributing to a wider effort to help communities withstand future shocks and improve their ability to provide for their families.
Together, we can help transform today's hardship into an opportunity for stronger, more resilient communities across Karamoja.
