Children in Karamoja are growing up amid a hunger crisis that threatens their health, development, and opportunities for a better future. According to the figures provided for this report, more than 154,200 children under five and approximately 13,900 pregnant and breastfeeding women are affected by, or at serious risk of, acute malnutrition.
These numbers highlight the urgent need to strengthen humanitarian support for families who cannot consistently access sufficient and nutritious food. When young children do not receive adequate nutrition, their growth and development can suffer. Malnutrition can also increase their vulnerability to illness, placing additional pressure on families and already stretched community services.
The Girl Child Foundation Uganda (GIFU) is calling on donors and humanitarian partners to help bring attention and support to the communities most affected by hunger. Children should not have their futures determined by drought, poverty, or their families' inability to afford basic food.
Through our GlobalGiving fundraising efforts, we invite individuals, institutions, and organizations to support the wider humanitarian response in Karamoja. Contributions can help strengthen efforts to deliver food assistance, improve access to essential nutrition support, and protect vulnerable children.
A hungry child cannot wait for tomorrow's promises. Help us advocate for a stronger response today so that children in Karamoja have a better chance to survive, grow, and thrive.
