It is the New Year and I hope that this finds you relaxed after Christmas and full of hope for a bright and cheerful 2023.
2022 is behind us, which is good. COVID, the terrible war in Ukraine and unpredictable weather have severely impacted progress and increased the price of everything. Throw in Ebola and it was impossible to plan anything. But there is nothing to stop us doing what we can to brighten up people's lives.
COVID forced us to change how we send money to Uganda. In 2022 we sent more than £40,000 in more than 200 transfers (ranging from £1 to £1,000). Most of it went on finishing building one nursery school, starting to build another and giving a helping hand to a third. This is really exciting because one of their dreams is to have permanent nursery schools in each of the villages we support.
Hundreds of children, at the 6 nursery schools we support, continued to receive a daily cup of hot porridge, something that was more important in 2022 than ever before. I finally made it to Uganda for the first time since 2019 and plan to visit twice this year. It was wonderful to be able to serve the porridge to the children and see for myself the impact it has on the families and communities as a whole. Children are healthier, happier and making good progress because of you and your support to Project Porridge.
We also provided hundreds of vulnerable and old people with emergency food supplies. Children received malaria treatment, dental treatment, hospital treatment. We bought coffins for those who didn’t survive and nutritious food for those who did. We also sent 15 children have sponsors to go to boarding school. Around 100 more, who were sent home because they couldn’t pay the £5 a term to go to their local primary school, have gone to school.
Thank you for your support and, if you are able, we would be so grateful for anything you might be able to donate to help us keep going in these tough times.
Sending you all best wishes for 2023.
Alison
