Yesterday the stars aligned with the Great Conjunction when Saturn and Jupiter were so close that, despite being millions of miles apart, they looked like one bright star shining down on us. This happens every 20 years but the last time they could be seen at night was in 1623. Sadly it was cloudy where I am, but the thought of people so far away in the villages of northern Uganda looking up at the same star as us was reassuring, especially as we have not been able to be with them this year.
I don't need to tell you that this year has been a shocker. Despite the gloom and doom, we have - thanks to YOU - brought some light and love into the lives of the children and people we support in northern Uganda. All of our projects stopped and our focus has been on their survival. We have managed to get porridge to the children, but not at school. The teachers have taken school and porridge to the children and will continue to do so until school starts again. We have also provided emergency food and supplies to the elderly and vulnerable and are planning a Santa-Swoop to those struggling the most. Our Santa-Swoop will consist of a chicken, salt, sugar, tea and a treat so that everybody will have something to celebrate. We are buying the chickens from the farmers who have fared better than others and this will help them provide for their families.
Fortunately, we are small and nimble and have been able to react and respond to individual needs. Being forced to do things differently in 2020 has resulted in many positive things and brought us closer to the people and communities we support. It has become more personal and we like that as it is at the heart of what we do. It also saves us money and we like that too!
Thank you so much for being on this journey with us and continuing to support us. Without you, we are nothing and without us the children far away, out of sight, in the remote villages of northern Uganda go hungry.
We all need some bright lights and twinkle right now and I hope wherever you are, whatever you are doing that you have light, love and peace this Christmas.
