Project Report | Dec 29, 2025
Donated funds utilized to buy food handouts for vi

By Anna Maiba | Project Coordinator

The Emergency Food Relief for Vulnerable Children project aims to provide immediate food assistance to 500 children aged five years and below in Makoni District, Manicaland Province, Zimbabwe. The project responds to increased food insecurity and malnutrition caused by the El Niño–induced drought, which severely affected the 2023/2024 farming season.

Children under five remain the most vulnerable group, facing hunger, malnutrition, and related health risks due to food shortages at household level.

2. Funds Received

Since the project was onboarded on the GlobalGiving platform, a total of USD $202 has been raised through donor contributions.

3. Use of Funds

The funds received were used directly to support project beneficiaries through the purchase of essential food items. Specifically, the organization procured:

  • 5 bags of maize

  • 1 bag of beans

These food items were distributed and shared among 5 selected vulnerable households with children under five years of age, contributing to improved household food availability and nutritional intake.

4. Results and Impact

Although the funds received so far are limited, the support has had a meaningful immediate impact, including:

  • Improved access to staple food for beneficiary households

  • Reduced short-term hunger among children under five

  • Increased community trust and engagement in the project

The distribution demonstrated the project’s ability to efficiently convert donor funds into direct food assistance.

5. Challenges

The major challenge remains insufficient funding, which limits the scale and frequency of food distributions. With the current resources, the project cannot yet reach all 500 targeted children or provide sustained monthly food hampers.

6. Appeal for Recurring Donations

To achieve lasting impact and meet the project goal, recurring monthly donations are urgently needed. Regular funding will enable the organization to:

  • Provide consistent monthly food hampers

  • Reach a larger number of vulnerable children

  • Improve nutritional outcomes over a longer period

  • Strengthen food security for affected families

Even small recurring donations can significantly increase the project’s reach and sustainability.

7. Conclusion

The initial USD $202 raised through GlobalGiving has been effectively utilized to support vulnerable children and their families. However, continued and recurring donor support is critical to fully fund the project and eliminate malnutrition among children in Makoni District.

Sustainable World Zimbabwe Trust sincerely thanks all donors for their contributions and kindly appeals for continued support to expand and sustain this life-saving intervention.
