Help 500 EL-NINO drought victims in Zimbabwe

The Sustainable World Zimbabwe Trust initiated the "Help 500 El Niño Drought Victims in Zimbabwe" project to provide essential food aid to 500 children aged five and below in Makoni District, Manicaland province. This initiative responds to the severe malnutrition resulting from the ongoing El Niño drought. As of now, the project has raised $200 in donations towards a total goal of $50,000, with $49,800 remaining. The project aims to alleviate hunger and improve the nutritional status of vulnerable children, ultimately impacting over 1,000 indirect beneficiaries.Makoni District is facing critical challenges due to the El Niño phenomenon, which has caused significant rainfall deficits during the 2023/2024 farming season. As a result, many families are struggling with food shortages, and children are particularly vulnerable to malnutrition. This project was launched to address these urgent needs by providing food relief directly to affected families.

• Activities Completed:
  • Identified and registered 500 children suffering from malnutrition in Makoni District.
  • Developed partnerships with local suppliers for sourcing food items.
  • Established a distribution plan for monthly food hampers.
• Outputs Achieved:
  • Distribution of initial food hampers including dried maize, cooking oil, beans, and salt commenced in October 2024
  • Awareness campaigns conducted to educate parents on nutrition and food preparation.

    • Implement monitoring mechanisms to assess health improvements among beneficiaries.
    • Engage local communities in discussions about sustainable agricultural practices.
