I don’t know if you remember, but last year we talked about the Festa Junina and the quadrilha, a traditional dance of this season. Our quadrilha group, formed by the adolescents of the center, aged between 13 and 15, has become famous this year! Yes… imagine that not only did they dance at the Festa Junina of the neighborhood where the Centro de Acolhida is located, but they were also invited to perform at other celebrations. They danced at the American School of Belo Horizonte and at Mercado do Cruzeiro; the Sanctuary of São José, in downtown Belo Horizonte, invited them as the main attraction, and so did the Festa Junina da Chiquinha at the Francisca de Paula school. In August, they will perform at the Festa Junina of Ibirité, a nearby city.
Kauan, who is part of the group, can hardly believe it: “I’ve never been to parties outside my neighborhood. Sometimes they’re very expensive, and my parents never took me… and this year I traveled around the city as a special guest at these events. It was incredible; I felt like part of a real dance company. When we arrived and got off the bus, there was always someone waiting for us who had prepared a place for us to get ready and focus… I felt like a real professional! And when we danced at Mercado do Cruzeiro, we even appeared on TV.”
Joana, the protagonist of the dance because she plays the role of the bride, shares her story: “It wasn’t easy to get here; we practiced a lot, and I managed to pass the audition to choose who would play the bride. In the audition, they had invited three professional quadrilheiros, meaning people who really do this dance!!!! And they told me I was very good and that I could have a future… that day was one of the best of my life. And then… look at the wonderful dress I have!!! It feels like a dream.”
We truly hope that this group of teenagers can continue to dedicate themselves and go even further!
