Hello everyone!
From Aula Mágica we extend our warmest greetings, and we hope that your families, projects and jobs are going well. This time we want to tell you about our nutrition program, a project that we have been focusing on very often lately.
First, we think it is very important to tell you why it is so important to talk about malnutrition in a country with so many levels of poverty in Guatemala. The context of malnutrition is extremely serious for the country, since according to UNICEF data, 49.8% of children suffer from chronic malnutrition. Practically half of our children! But... why does this happen?
It is really a chain of factors very difficult to cut, especially when the deficient nutrition of a human being begins before birth, when his mother lives in a context of extreme poverty. After birth, children are not usually fed much more than breast milk, corn tortillas and beans. While these foods are nutritious, they do not replace all the vitamins, minerals and proteins that a complete diet would provide. This gives rise to chronic malnutrition, which, at a young age, provokes severe consequences on a child's brain and motor development.
In Aula Mágica we are joining forces to stop this! We cannot think of a complete education when many of the children do not have the nutritional conditions to develop integrally. Besides, their health and well-being is a priority for all of us.
For this reason, we are fighting for our children to have a glass of nutritional drink every day. These drinks are designed for children like them, so that it provides them with minerals and vitamins that they probably do not consume the rest of the day. Our facilitators are in charge of handing out the drink. Giving each child a glass a day makes a big long-term change in their nutrition, and also in their learning!
Help us to keep this important project going so that our children can continue to enjoy better nutritional opportunities. And thank you for all the support you already give us, all this would not be possible without you!
I hope to continue writing to you soon to tell you more about our projects and activities.
