FEDUJAZZ Workshops & Dominican Republic Jazz Festival

The 21st Dominican Republic Jazz Festival successfully concluded a vibrant five-city concert tour of the island with acclaimed, international artists, beginning October 29 in Santo Domingo, and from Nov. 1 – Nov. 5, 2017 in Santiago, Sosua, Puerto Plata and Cabarete. FEDUJAZZ, the educational foundation of the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival, organized a free music workshop series for young people in the Dominican Republic.

GRAMMY Award Winning Musicians visit FEDUJAZZ for Workshops

Over one hundred students enrolled in the ongoing free music programs at the foundation’s center in Cabarete on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic attended workshops with nearly all of the bands performing at the festival. Artists included GRAMMY Award winners Brian Lynch and Kim Nazarian, acclaimed musicians Marco Pignataro, Sean Jones, William Cepeda, George Garzone, Anat Cohen, and the Berklee Global Jazz Institute.

The free educational music workshop series with the festival musicians was also offered to public and private school students, and held across the country at such institutions as the National Conservatory of Music in Santo Domingo, Centro Leon Cultural Museum & Auditorium in Santiago, Casa Marina Amphitheater in Sosúa, Casa de Arte in Sosúa, Centro Renovacion Cultural Center in Puerto Plata, The Mustard Seed House for children with disabilities in Puerto Plata, and at the Main Stage of the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival in Cabarete.

Magic Moments at Festival with FEDUJAZZ Youth Band Performance

A FEDUJAZZ Youth Band had the opportunity to perform on the main stage during the festival workshops and demonstrate their talent and progress to an appreciative audience.

Thanks to the donations of brass instruments to the foundation, the newly formed Big Band which has been practicing for only eleven months held their very first performance on the main stage for an appreciative audience of three hundred local school children. The crowd response for the matinee show was so amazing, that an encore performance was repeated the next day.

FEDUJAZZ continues with its mission of providing free music education for youth of the Dominican Republic in collaboration with the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival, through the generous support of VIP concert ticket sales, private donations and corporate sponsors.
