Sunset Jazz Fundraising Event for FEDUJAZZ
A Sunset Jazz event was celebrated at Sea Horse Ranch in June, with a special performance by acclaimed international performers Marco Pignataro (saxophone) and Laszlo Gardony (piano). The event was hosted by FEDUJAZZ and the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival, and featured an auction of original artwork by Adolfo Faringthon, with the proceeds benefitting FEDUJAZZ music foundation.
The spectacular setting of the evening’s celebration was the magnificent Villa Ataraxia, which provided the perfect backdrop for cocktails and music enjoyed on the garden lawn in front of the ocean.
We offer our appreciation to the community for joining the event and showing their support for the arts, culture and music education for youth of the Dominican Republic.
FEDUJAZZ Graduation & Staff News
In July, FEDUJAZZ hosted a Concert and Graduation of the 2016-2017 School Year. Our professors and students performed a live music recital for the community, along with a ceremony for our graduates. We are happy and proud of our recent graduates: ALINA on piano, ANGEL on cello and GERSON on alto saxophone Congratulations to all our students for their hard work and dedication during the past year. Classes resumed on August 12, 2017 and we welcomed new students and a new school year.
We recently bid farewell to Gustavo Hernandez, the FEDUJAZZ Music Coordinator serving an Internship from Berklee College of Music. Gustavo’s work with the foundation for the past year has been extremely valuable, and we are so thankful to Gustavo for his contribution. FEDUJAZZ welcomes the newest member of our team, Alex Dyring to FEDUJAZZ as the new Music Coordinator. Seattle-native and Berklee College of Music-alum, Alex is an active member of the New Orleans jazz and R&B scenes.
Marco Pignataro Workshops
Mutli-talented musician Marco Pignataro joined us at FEDUJAZZ this Summer to provide music workshops for our students. Our advanced and beginner students received a special saxophone workshop with Mr. Pignataro, Managing Director of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, and Artistic Advisor to the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival. We are ever grateful for his talent, dedication, and support.
Honoring Matt Marvuglio
FEDUJAZZ honored Matt Marvuglio, an extraordinary musician and teacher, and exceptional human being of great humility. Dean of the Performance Division at Berklee College of Music, and Artistic Advisor to FEDUJAZZ and the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival, FEDUJAZZ honored Matt with a classroom dedicated to his memory.
Matt Marvuglio passed away in early August, 2017. Matt began attending the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival in 2007, and accompanied and supported us throughout the years.
Our tribute is meant to express our gratitude to Mr. Marvuglio for being an amazing guide and mentor to FEDUJAZZ, and helping our students in the process of education and transformation through music. Rest in peace, Matt.
