In the month of December 2016, as an end of the year celebration, the children of FEDUJAZZ presented themselves in a recital for their friends and families.
It was a large milestone for the students. They were required to perform live, memorize their music, work together as a group, and most importantly enjoy themselves and have fun. Students showed a high level of self-awareness, creating time to practice and prepare so that they may properly demonstrate all the progress they had made in the past 5 months. As professors our job is to spark the interests and curiosity of the students and have them understand certain characteristics that are required of professional musicians; Discipline, dedication, perseverance. We have been very fortunate enough to have had high calibre artists come to the foundation and spend time with the children and to share their experiences. We also had Aisha Syed, a special and extraordinary Violinist who came to FEDUJAZZ to share with our kids and did workshop with,also she invited our kids to her concert.
Thanks in part to the Dominican Jazz Festival that occurs in November, FEDJAZZ is fortunate to host workshops given by the same artists who are performing, artists such as;
Esperanza Spalding, Enerolisa, Terri Lynn Carrington, Lihi Haruvi, Tia Fuller, the Berklee Global Jazz ambassadors, Joanne Brackeen, David Sanchez, and Giovanni Hidalgo among others.
This project is very important because we provide children and young people with new perspectives and we help them to have a better childhood through music and care.
