On April 30th we celebrated the Unesco certified event International Jazz Day with graduation of the children who have been studying music with Fedujazz since opening our doors one year ago. All the Children performed and we all so proud of what has been accomplished in just one year.
The students were able to perform in front of the audience made up of the community at large and of course proud parents and supporters. The event closed with an open jam including professional musicians with students joining in at will. The event also featured a live performance by the dance students and a live statue performance as the culminating event of a special month-long workshop to teach this skill. Although we are a music school, we also incorporate varied elements of cultural center as part of our mission to expose these children to art and culture.
Our most advanced students were invited to perform in Puerto Plata as part of the Fiestas Patronales wich was a resounding success.
During this semester, we also lucky enough to receive a visting musician, David Powers, who gave a worshop on the Saxophone.
FEDUJAZZ, has now stopped accepting new children into the music program in order to focus on the 200 kids currently attending classes, most of wich are now in instruments classes after having graduated from reading music and recorder. The instruments we currently offer are Violin, Guitar, Saxophone, Recorder, Cello, Piano and Base Guitar. We are need of more of all these Instruments.
