Falcon Support Service’s recent #festiveshelter appeal to provide emergency beds to the homeless over the festive period has been a resounding success, with an amazing response from the local community, businesses and some fundraising events, raising a total of £5,408.
We were overwhelmed with the generosity and this has allowed us to not only provide the beds over December, but by raising more money than expected has enabled us to continue this throughout the whole of January. We have accommodated 27 people on the bed, totalling 137 nights who would be struggling to find somewhere to stay.
A service user who used one of the emergency beds was asked what it meant to have an emergency bed, knowing the community had funded it. This is what he said “It means everything to me. It shows that some people actually care and the worlds not full of nasty people."
In addition to the Emergency Beds, Falcon Support Services put on a Christmas Lunch at the Falcon Centre which was opened up to vulnerable members of the community and 29 attendees received a memorable meal and Christmas gift.
After the Loughborough Echo’s story on the #festiveshelter appeal, Falcon Support Services were inundated with volunteers who wanted to help the homeless over Christmas. One of the volunteers said “It showed what a fantastic charity you are and I absolutely applaud you all. The #festiveshelter appeal highlighted how we as a community have rallied around to give back to those in need”
We are honoured to have made a difference to those that need us. We would like to say a big thank you for the dedication of the volunteers and staff members as well as the donors who made this all happen. We are always grateful to those that support our cause in helping the homeless from crisis to independent living.
If you would like to keep up to date with the work we are doing, and upcoming fundraising events, I have included our Social Media accounts below which you can follow. Alternatively if you feel there are ways in which you can support us further we would always be keen to meet interested parties and explore how we could develop a mutually beneficial working relationship.
All the Best
