By Tamika Muhammad | Crisis Response Coordinator
Hello again! First, I would like to start by thanking you all for your continued contributions to Fair Haven, without it we truly would not be able to provide all the amazing support that we give to survivors in our community. We have made it to the half-way point of 2025 and things have been so busy for us as an organization.
In April our Executive Director and Founder Kelly Vates traveled to Washington D.C. to attend the First Lady’s Luncheon where Fair Haven was chosen as the “Charity of Choice”. During the month of April, we were also invited by the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office to present at a Lake County Clergy Council meeting to raise awareness and increase our partnerships in this area.
Additionally, we made time in the month of May for a bit of rest and rejuvenation that included staff, volunteers, and survivors as well. On the 31st of May the National Park Trust hosted an event for us at the Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education located at Indiana Dunes National Park. We learned about the history of the national park and how healing being outside in nature can be for us all. This was much needed!
What I listed above were only a few of the things we accomplished in the first half of this year. Now, let’s talk more about the support that you provide and how it allows us to offer support in so many ways. Whether it is a journal for a survivor to write down their feelings in, a gift card to provide food to fill their refrigerator, or transportation to an important follow up with the doctor. Another way to support us is by talking to a friend about who we are and what we do, this is a huge form of support as well.
Again, thank you for all that you do to help us help survivors.
