New Eyes for Kentucky - April 2025

By Jean Gajano | Executive Director

Dear Supporter,

“New Eyes for Kentucky” continues to enable eye care access for low income Kentucky residents by providing  them with the simple, yet critical, tool of eyeglasses. Since 1932, New Eyes has made a postive impact on the in the lives of financially struggling children, adults and seniors with the clear vision they receive from our eyeglasses. It is a 93-year old mission that is as important today as it was at our founding so many decades ago.

Since our last report in December, New Eyes has assisted 176 Kentuckians: 25 children, 89 women and 62 men, bringing the past year's total to 571 individuals in need in Kentucky at an average cost of $23.63 per pair of glasses. Compare that to the current $230 U.S. average cost of new eyeglasses. Our clients struggle to pay rent, food, medical and childcare bills, making a new pair of glasses a luxury when it is truly a necessity. They now have the clear vision to improve their lives through better education, employment, independence and security. With over 11 million Americans  who need, but cannot afford, eyeglasses (according to the CDC), New Eyes clearly has more work to do. I share with you a note from a healthcare advocate about the service New Eyes' provides to Kentucky's most vulnerable:

"As a minister working in public health and primary health care in Kentucky, I have firsthand knowledge and experience with health care disparities. Having partnered with you, New Eyes, many low-income, underserved, community members have been able to receive the kind of caring services that they deserve as human beings. I am always grateful that you make opportunities available for ministries like mine to serve humanity.Thank you for everything that you do in service to the poor."  - Minister Rogers, Providence, KY

Thanks to partners like GlobalGiving, New Eyes can help those facing financial hardship get access to clear vision so they can lead independent and successful lives. Together we are changing lives one pair of glasses at a time!

With deep gratitude,

Jean Gajano, Executive Director
