Dear Supporter,
Our project, “New Eyes for Kentucky” continues to transform the lives of children and adults in the state of Kentucky with the simple, yet critical, tool of eyeglasses. Since our last report in September, New Eyes has provided 348 additional low-income Kentucky residents with new eyeglasses.
The total number of low-income Kentuckians helped through GlobalGiving donations is 189: 86 women, 64 men and 39 children, giving them the clear vision they need to build better lives for themselves, their families and their communities
New Eyes worked directly with 26 social service agencies in Kentucky to provide their clients with new eyeglasses. Since September 2023, 34 children, 173 women and 141 men in Kentucky were helped (Each child receives two pair - one for home and one for school). Seventy-five percent of families were working poor; the remaining 25% were adults 65 and older, who are covered by traditional Medicare health insurance which does not pay for eyeglasses for seniors.
The average $200 cost of eyeglasses is financially prohibitive for the individuals New Eyes assists. It becomes a luxury instead of the necessity it truly is. The eyeglasses and clear vision that GlobalGiving donors have given to so many in need in Kentucky have allowed them to pursue life’s possibilities and potential. It’s a gift that has deep and long-lasting effects.
We thank all our GlobalGiving donors for their critical support in changing the lives of so many financially struggling Kentuckians with the gift of new eyeglasses. We are changing lives together and thank you for partnering with us when there are so many worthy causes to support. Without you we could not do what we do, and we are forever grateful!
With deep gratitude,
Jean Gajano, Executive Director
