We share the love of Jesus Christ by providing free education and basic human needs for numerous poverty stricken villages in Rakai District, Uganda. Located in Mpuunge village, Byakabanda sub-country, the school serves a population of more than 7000 people in 9 villages. Currently we have about 280 children attending each academic term of which 80% of them are orphaned. We are not supported by any specific church or organization but rely 100% on our fundraising and grants
The 9 villages in the area are a very high poverty area and lack secure food and water. There also was no schools in the area so many of the children don't have access to an education.
Since starting the school we have 390 children attending currently each academic session. We provide free education, all the materials, meals, and water for them. About 80% of the children are orphaned s when academic terms are not in session we have about 50-60 children who live in the classrooms. The number of children attending is growing rapidly so we need monthly support to provide educational supplies, teachers, and food. We also need to build wells and more facilities as soon as we can.
The benefits of the project are projected to far exceed the costs, with an Economic Internal Rate of Return (EIRR) of 26.8%, indicating economic viability of this project. The intervention will result in an increase in the number of Grade 7 completers in intervention villages by (i) increasing number of student places through classroom construction, and (ii) improved retention rates through provision of female teachers.
