Jeffco Says GO!

By Kristina Welch | Executive Director

Hello Garden Supporters,

Thank you  for all you have done to support our work!

One of the trickiest parts to bringing fresh produce to kids, is getting all the approvals from the cafeteria manager, to administration, from parents, the district, and county.

Jovial Concepts is pleased to announce that with our new partners Feeding Many and Sprouts City Farms, we have the approvals we need to build gardens at Edgewater Elementary and Kyffin Elementary! We are also working with Eagleton Elementary in Denver!  All the schools will have gardens, food banks, and a harvest time farm stand.

Our 6th graders in the greenhouse club couldn't be more excited to announce that they picked their first handful of cherry tomatoes and brought them to the cafeteria. 40 total! Imagine the size of their eyes, their chests puffed out, and the beaming pride of a student who nurtured and picked their first tomatoes to share with their classmates. We had to remind them several times not to run as they each proudly marched their handful of tomatoes down the halls to the cafeteria manager.  She sweetly smiled and said, "well 7 or 8 kids will have a very special treat in their salad today, wont they?!"

It is an honor to watch as the students begin to absorb how much work truly goes into their meals. All of the garden club students ate salads today, hoping that their salad tomatoes were the same ones they grew in club! It was wonderful to overhear them excitedly chattering that someday soon, all the salads will be filled with garden club tomatoes.

Thank you again for your support and all you do.
