Latrine projects require a lot of training as people are just not used to having a sanitary bathroom. Most people use pit latrines or open defecation. So for the duration of the construction our facilitators meet with families, school children and the entire community and train, train and train some more. Changing habits is difficult for all of us. Just because one has a bathroom does not mean one knows good hygiene. So our staff use skits, puppets, demonstrations, tests, lecture/discussion, games, drawing and anything that will help people change habits and take care of their new bathrooms correctly. It is required that anyone receiving a bathroom not only help build it but they must participate in all the workshops. We thought we would give you a glimpse into the workshops.
