Comfort Lounge Project Nears Completion

By Dean Sinco | Project Leader

The fifth project of the Estudio Damgo, the People’s Comfort Lounge at the Rizal Boulevard of Dumaguete City, is about to be completed. The facility will serve as a restroom for public use.

In line with the recent development, the greywater waste line pipes have been installed collecting used water from floor drain to the catch basin and finally to the trenches.

It was part of the initial plan to collect all waste water including greywater into the filtering chamber as part of our sewage garden design. However, the team decided to use PVC pipes to collect water from floor drain and thus, making the waste water to run into the entire trench area beneath the slab.

The catch basin will serve as a collection box for sand, tissues, or pebbles washed along with the used water. The reason behind the alteration is to minimize the depth needed for the trenches.

Also, the installation of waste pipe lines was done with the help of experienced plumbers.

Another important feature of the comfort lounge is the barrel-like septic system with 3 polyurethane barrels provided for each gender-designated set of water closets, making use of 6 barrels in total.

On the other hand, to signify that the building is close to completion, the stone pedestals are installed after concreting the slab.

The stones are being drilled so that the “false feet” can be placed under for added stability so the stones will not roll over during installation. This will allow the stones to be lifted a few inches above the ground before concrete pouring on slab.

Reinforcement bars are also placed through the stones as added connection as bamboo pergolas are being set.

Matting of reinforcement bars is done before pouring concrete on slab. Pouring of concrete on slab is done with the use of a mini concrete mixer to hasten the process.

Meanwhile, filtering chambers are being installed with pipes from the septic system which consists of 5 divisions. The two side chambers closest to each outlet from the septic barrels will accommodate the umbrella plants then, the next two chambers will be planted with bamboo shoots, and the center chamber will be planted with ginger. All of the chambers will have the typical filtering technique with the use of gravel, charcoal (wood), and fine sand, respectively.

LLastly, the installation process of bamboo trusses is ongoing at the project site alongside with the bamboo pergolas.
