Dear Friends,

Thank you for continuing to help us in our mission to propose improvements for education in Chile.

Different milestones marked the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014, including a quick campaign against the arbitrary closure of public schools and the gathering of 5,000 signatures supporting the urgency of prioritizing vocational education in Chile.

The quick campaign started on 7 and 8 January when we wrote and called to adhere to the "open letter to the Minister of Education", where we exposed the unexplained closure of public schools in different areas of the country, calling for these actions to stop. In two days we gathered the signatures of more than 1,500 people, adding some representatives, institutions and academics. We ended the campaign with the delivery of the letter to the Ministry of Education together with the presidents of the most important federations of students in Chile.

Our second news had a longer history. We launched the "Technical Education ¡Now!" campaign in October, which aimed to highlight the importance of vocational education in Chile. We set the goal to gather 5,000 signatures supporting their urgency. In addition we organized the seminar "Towards a new Chile Technical Education" and we launched www.educaciontecnicaahora.cl, where we currently have 5,175 signatures. We reached our goal and we are now preparing the delivery of all the signatures in March to the new President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet.

We started 2014 with these two big hits… on February some of our staff will be going in vacation, but don’t despair, some of us will hold the fort and we will come back with full force in March ;) Best regards!

Distintos hitos marcaron el cierre de 2013 y el comienzo de 2014, entre ellos, una campaña rápida para presionar contra el cierre arbitrario de colegios y que llegamos a las 5.000 firmas apoyando la urgencia de priorizar la Educación Técnica en Chile.

En el primer caso, los días 7 y 8 de enero redactamos y llamados a adherir a la “carta abierta a la ministra de Educación”, donde expusimos el inexplicable cierre de colegios públicos en distintas partes del país, llamando a que estas acciones se detuvieran. En dos días reunimos la firma de más de 1.500 personas, sumando algunos diputados, instituciones y académicos, lo que finalizó con la entrega de la misma en el Ministerio de Educación junto a los presidentes de las principales federaciones de estudiantes del país (y todos los medios).

Nuestra segunda noticia tuvo un desarrollo más largo. Desde octubre que lanzamos la campaña “Educación Técnica ¡Ahora!”, la que tenía como finalidad relevar la importancia de la Educación Técnica para Chile. Nos pusimos como meta reunir 5.000 firmas apoyando su urgencia, por lo que además de realizar el Seminario “hacia una nueva educación Técnica para Chile”, lanzamos el sitio www.educaciontecnicaahora.cl , donde actualmente llevamos 5.175 firmantes, alcanzando nuestra meta y preparando la entrega de un impreso con todo en marzo a la presidenta electa de Chile, Michelle Bachelet.  

Comenzamos el 2014 con estos dos grandes eventos, en febrero parte del equipo se irá de vacaciones, pero no se preocupen, alguno de nosotros nos quedaremos a cuidar el fuerte y volveremos en marzo llenos de fuerza. :) ¡Saludos cordiales!
