The six-room earthbag building, which will be the only female dormitory in Salleri is close to completion!
This building has two 3-room blocks and come fall of 2015, will house 20 girls who are pursuing a bachelor’s degree at the local college.
While 80% of structures in the Solukhumbu district were destroyed in the recent earthquakes, this earthbag building has withstood the earthquakes well and was used for shelter during the aftershocks because of its structural stability.
In the face of the tragedy Nepal has experienced and the challenges that lie ahead to rebuild, the promise of education remains to be a beacon of hope for girls and young women, especially for one beneficiary, who has said; “Education can take you from this darkness into a life full of light and hope. Education is important for everyone, but especially girls in Nepal.”
It is because of contributions from supporters like you that Edge of Seven is able to continue moving ahead with our mission to education and empower girls, women and rural communities in Nepal and across the globe. Thank you for your continued support!
