The Swat Youth Front and Hesperian have been partners for many years in distributing life-saving health information to remote communities in Pakistan. SYF has translated and distributed Hesperian books using community health volunteers, and many times communities come back to ask for more copies of the books.
The view from the ground is often the best way to understand why health information is vitally important to a community. Badar Zaman of the Swat Youth Front describes the need this way:
"Hesperian's "A Community Guide to Environmental Health" published in Urdu is a great source of awareness and information for the local population who lack life's most basic necessities: portable water, food, shelter and sanitation facility. The book will enable people to understand methods and techniques to promote community environmental health which will also improve their general health. Urdu translation of this book will empower health promoters, development workers, educators, activists, community leaders, civil society organizations and ordinary people to take charge of their communities' environmental health."
Any money raised by this campaign will make these books a reality. Each book, in turn, will support an average of 40 people in protecting their environment and community health. We hope you will share this campaign, and help SYF meet their goal.
