The Friends of Tryon Creek continue to be a leader in environmental education for children in the Portland metropolitan area. Already in 2010 we have served just under 3000 students, which included a new program with the Lake Oswego School district serving all of their 5th grade classes. In that program sponsored by the City of Lake Oswego, the Friends staff and trained volunteer Nature Guides lead tours of the lake's watershed informing the children about the habitat that they impacted daily. In May we received a $10,000 grant from the Gray Family Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation to fund a summer teacher workshop in collaboration with three other environmental groups attempting to educate the teachers on the value of using natural habitats as learning tools and the non-profits who manage them as resources. In addition, the Friends summer Nature Day Camp was filled close to capcity again and remains one of the premiere summer outdoor experiences available in the metro region. Scholarships, as always are offered for both school group visits and for indivdual families interested in our summer camp. This year we have already had more requests for scholarships than in the past.
