Ngarchelong is the OneReef community that is supported through donations to this project. In December 2021, OneReef Community Partnership Agreements were signed with Kayangel and Ngardmau, which along with Ngarchelong (a OneReef partner community), make up the Northern states of Palau. OneReef and Ngarchelong have been working together since 2015-16 and have been formal partners since 2020, which increases the significance of the Partnership Agreements with Kayangel and Ngardmau. The Ngardmau protected area borders Ngarchelong, and Kayangel is an atoll about 27 miles north of Ngarchelong, so partnering with all three states will increase the overall effectiveness of surveillance and reef monitoring in this area, collectively known as the Northern Reefs.
We are still raising funds for reef monitoring in Ngarchelong. The community has also requested funds for a floating/mobile ranger station that will be shared with Kayangel. Sharing resources like this increases operational and financial efficiency. Thank you for your continued support!
