In March of 2020, the Ngarchelong team (mostly Ngarchelong State rangers), trained by OneReef and Scripps Institution of Oceanography independently imaged six sites in the Northern Reefs (Palau) using cutting-edge photogrammetry technology.
The funds donated by people like you helped OneReef buy some basic equipment like 2-way radios, GPS devices, cameras, and a drone that the Ngarchelong team used during the imaging project. Thank you for your support of this important work!
The underwater images that the Ngarchelong team took were sent to OneReef collaborators, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, who process the images and create the 3D video "maps" of the reef that helps them and the community see their reef in granular detail. This helps them make changes to their reef management plan as needed.
Attached to this report is the 3D video from one of the six reef sites that was imaged by the Ngarchelong team.
We are still raising funds to buy the rest of the equipment requested by the Ngarchelong community so we appreciate your continued support.
