We are thrilled to have raised funds that will allow us to permanently equip our partner community for vital imaging work. Ngarchelong Rangers have identified 30 coral reef sites that they want to image and monitor to boost the overall health of their coral reef system. Of these, 6 were completed in March 2020. They have a work plan to image the rest of the sites by end of December 2020. The funds are being used to obtain the equipment needed for the imaging (GPS, cameras, underwater housing etc.). The funds will also be used to buy boat fuel and staff time needed for the imaging. We are continuing to raise the funds needed to image the rest of the coral reef sites that have been identified.
The imaging being done by the Ngarchelong Rangers will produce a 3D video like the one in the link. Unlike other imaging products, this 3D novel technolgy provides granular details on the coral reef that can better monitor reef health across time. (NOTE: the imaging does not capture marine life)
